Manny Lopez got his start in the restaurant business at the historic Muehlebach Hotel working as bartender and server. Soon after, Manny moved to Westport One. It’s during this period that he refined his bartending skills. Manny began to make a name for himself as a “Mixologist – el perfeccionista.” His mixology skills coupled with showmenship and attention to detail would make him known as a true artist in the field of bartending. By 1980, Manny decided it was time to open his own restaurant in downtown Kansas City.
At our 207 Southwest Boulevard location, Manny and his wife Vivian opened Manny’s Restaurant of Kansas City. Starting with the recipes of his family, Manny began serving Kansas City. The recipes served in Manny’s 35 years ago and today originate from the Lopez family. Manny began with serving the food he grew up eating and it became a favorite of Kansas City.
Today, Manny and Vivian continue to influence the restaurant, providing business and operational advisement. Although Manny and Vivian have left the day to day operations of the restaurant in the hands of their children, their influence continues to drive and grow the business even today.
